I thought it was about time I did an update here. Inspired by Meph's enthusiasm really, but all the same...
I have been plodding on with photography through the Autumn, but I haven't really had the opportunity to venture out of the region so all my photos are taken of familiar places and of familiar people. I have been shooting primarily with a 50mm prime lens for the past few months, and have found it not only optically clearer, but more challenging than using a zoom lens. I think my framing has improved if nothing else, and I find it quite easy to frame a square format image within the constraints of the digital sensor now.
My Dad invited me along to a Monochrome night at the Lowestoft Photographic club a few months back, and I decided to join the group. Many of the club members are seniors who have been shooting film for many decades, so there is certainly a whole host of information and experiences to learn from.
In actual fact I have gone back to the "old school" sooner than I expected, well not quite head under a cloth stuff, but I did manage to pick up a bargain 35mm film SLR at a club auction on Wednesday. Thanks to Adee (if he is reading) who brought it along on the night. It may have gone for next to nothing, but rest assured that it is already cleaned, loved and will be used. Having never shot film before, I can't say for how long it will be used. Hopefully a little longer than the first roll I develop!
I found an expired colour film in a drawer the first morning I had it and loaded it up straight away. I'd already looked up the manual online as well as reading various information, it seems that the Minolta 7000 really was cutting edge back in 1985, having one of the first built in AF systems as well as an excellent build quality. There are plenty of folk around the world still raving about the Minolta 7000 and it's lenses. So I'll see how I get along.
I ordered a Ilford black and white film on Amazon which should arrive early next week. I feel a project coming on in 2010 to celebrate a quarter century of the Minolta 7000 and the auto focus revolution. |

Erosion
This was taken last week on Benacre beach.
The cliffs there are eroding away at a furious speed, it is an unusual and beautiful place if a little dangerous.

A new project for early 2010. Kitchen renovations. Could be an endless source of photography?...
